Shirley Temple Black Receives Life Achievement Award from the Screen Actors Guild
Shirley Temple Black received a very long standing ovation from her fellow actors, many of whom were inspired by her iconic career, at the 12th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles as she received the Life Achievement Award.

Among the actors giving Shirley a standing ovation were such stars as George Clooney, Morgan Freeman, Sandra Bullock, William Shatner, Don Cheadle and Reese Witherspoon.
Current child star Dakota Fanning introduced the retrospective film compilation of Shirley's early film career, her family life and her impressive diplomatic career. Jamie Lee Curtis then introduced Shirley as she was escorted on stage by her son, Charles Black, Jr.
Shirley told the audience she was honored to be receiving the Life Achievement Award from her peers. She also shared that "she was delighted to be told, at three years old that she was an actress, although I didn't know what an actress was." Shirley continued that she had "been blessed with three wonderful careers," motion pictures and television, wife, mother and grandmother and lastly, diplomatic service for the United States Government.
In closing, Shirley offered one piece of advice for anyone wanting to receive a lifetime achievement award…"Start early!"
Few in the Screen Actors Guild have matched her popularity, achievement and impact in the world beyond the screen. Shirley Temple stands alone among the pioneering generation of film stars.
